Marvel Snap's avian additions are few and far between, limited to Cosmo, Groose, Zabu, and Hit Monkey—until now. Redwing, Falcon's loyal companion, joins the roster as part of the Brave New World season.
Redwing's Mechanics in Marvel Snap
Redwing is a 3-cost, 4-power card with a unique ability: The first time it's moved, it adds a card from your hand to its previous location.
However, there are significant limitations: Redwing's ability is one-time use only. Attempts to reactivate it using cards like Symbiote Spider-Man are futile. Precise card targeting with Redwing also proves challenging. Move decks often feature low-cost cards (like Iron Fist) that are undesirable targets, while Scream decks typically manipulate opponent's cards rather than their own.
Despite these limitations, affordable move options exist for players with lower Collection Levels, such as Madame Web or Cloak. Redwing's potential for surprise victories lies in deploying powerful cards early (like Galactus) or drawing high-value cards such as The Infinaut.
Optimal Redwing Decks (Day One)
Ares and Surtur-centric decks, popular in the previous season, have adapted to incorporate Scream, Aero, and Heimdall. Redwing finds a niche here, though Surtur usually takes priority on turn 3. This high-cost deck includes:
- Hydra Bob
- Scream
- Kraven
- Captain America
- Redwing
- Polaris
- Surtur
- Ares
- Cull Obsidian
- Aero
- Heimdall
- Magneto
(Note: This deck heavily relies on Series 5 cards: Hydra Bob, Scream, Redwing, Surtur, Ares, and Cull Obsidian. Hydra Bob can be substituted with a 1-cost alternative like Rocket Raccoon or Iceman.) The strategy involves deploying Surtur on turn 3, followed by high-power cards to boost its strength. Scream provides an alternative win condition by stealing power. Polaris, Aero, and Magneto manipulate card locations, while Redwing, when played into Heimdall, buffs Surtur and draws a high-power card.
Another potential deck incorporating Redwing utilizes Madame Web, as Dagger's nerf has diminished the viability of move-centric strategies. Madame Web's Ongoing ability complements Ongoing decks, offering a possible home for Redwing:
- Ant-Man
- Madame Web
- Psylocke
- Sam Wilson
- Captain America
- Luke Cage
- Captain America
- Redwing
- Doom 2099
- Iron Lad
- Blue Marvel
- Doctor Doom
- Spectrum
(This deck includes two Series 5 cards: Madame Web and Doom 2099. Removing Madame Web necessitates removing Redwing and replacing it with another Ongoing card like Mobius M. Mobius.) This is primarily a Doom 2099 Ongoing deck, aiming for rapid power distribution across locations. Madame Web aids in manipulating Doom 2099's bots and moving Sam Wilson's shield, while Redwing offers an additional method for activating Madame Web's ability.
Is Redwing Worth the Investment?
Currently, Redwing's power level and the archetype it supports are considered underwhelming. Saving resources for future cards is recommended unless significant buffs are implemented.
