Sony PlayStation State of Play Scheduled for Next Week

by Joshua Apr 26,2025

Sony is reportedly gearing up to deliver its much-anticipated February PlayStation State of Play broadcast next week. According to the reliable leaker NateTheHate, who previously nailed the timing of Nintendo’s Switch 2 reveal, this year's event is set to take place during Valentine’s Day week, from February 10 to 14.

As speculation swirls, let's dive into what Sony might have in store for this year's State of Play. A look at their announced first-party titles slated for 2025 offers some exciting possibilities. Sucker Punch's Ghost of Yotei, currently with a 2025 release window, might showcase new gameplay footage and a concrete release date.

Bungie’s PvP extraction shooter, Marathon, could make an appearance, especially if it's gearing up for open playtesting this year. Haven Studios' debut game, Fairgames, is another contender for a spotlight. Naughty Dog's newly announced IP, Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, along with Insomniac's Marvel’s Wolverine, are also on the radar. Perhaps most likely is a fresh trailer for Hideo Kojima’s Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, set to launch in 2025.

What we won't be seeing are the various live service games Sony recently canceled. Last month, Sony axed two unannounced live-service projects from Bend Studio and Bluepoint Games, the latter being a live-service God of War game. Meanwhile, Bend Studio's project remains a mystery. However, Guerrilla Games' live service Horizon game reportedly survived the cut. Could this be the moment for its grand reveal?

Moving to potential third-party announcements, Kojima's Physint, the upcoming stealth-action PlayStation exclusive, seems a bit premature for a reveal. On the other hand, Phantom Blade Zero, the flashy hack-and-slash action RPG from Chinese studio S-Game, feels more likely.

And let’s not overlook Microsoft, now a key player in publishing games for PlayStation. With Indiana Jones and the Great Circle set to hit PS5 soon, we might see a release date announcement. Could Microsoft also use the State of Play to finally announce Halo's arrival on PlayStation?

Looking to the past can help us predict the future. Last year’s State of Play featured titles like Death Stranding 2, Physint, Rise of the Ronin, the Until Dawn remaster, Stellar Blade, Dragon's Dogma 2, Sonic x Shadow Generations, various Silent Hill projects, Ken Levine’s Judas, Foamstars, and Helldivers 2.
