Pre-orders for the eagerly anticipated Nintendo Switch 2 were scheduled to begin worldwide on April 9. However, economic turbulence triggered by Trump's tariffs led Nintendo to postpone the pre-order launch in the U.S., followed by Canada. Despite these delays, pre-orders proceeded as planned in other regions, including the UK.
According to a FAQ on Nintendo’s official website, the first round of invitations for pre-orders will be sent out starting May 8, 2025, exclusively for the My Nintendo Store. As of now, there's no information regarding pre-orders through retail outlets.
Nintendo has confirmed that additional batches of invitation emails will be dispatched periodically until the purchasing option is opened to all on the My Nintendo Store.
The initial invitation emails will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis to those registrants who meet specific priority criteria. Those receiving an invite will have a 72-hour window from the time the email is sent to finalize their purchase.
Nintendo Switch 2 Pre-Order Invitation Priority Requirements:
- You must have purchased a Nintendo Switch Online membership.
- You must have maintained a paid Nintendo Switch Online membership for at least 12 months.
- You must have opted into sharing gameplay data and accumulated at least 50 hours of total gameplay.
