Tides Of Annihilation Trailer Showcases Fast-Paced Combat
A Sneak Peek Into An Apocalyptic London
First revealed at the recently concluded PlayStation State of Play, the hack-and-slash action-adventure game Tides of Annihilation has sparked even more interest with its newly released extended gameplay trailer.
The trailer features early development gameplay footage, showcasing protagonist Gwendolyn and her sword-transforming companion, Niniane, navigating the ruins of a desolate, otherworldly London ravaged by an Outworld invasion. As they traverse the crumbling streets, they encounter enemies that attempt to thwart their progress. It's revealed that Gwendolyn possesses the power to summon over ten legendary knights inspired by King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table.
After clearing the path of foes and further exploration through a magical portal, the duo is drawn into an intense boss fight against a character named Mordred, who has conflicting objectives with Gwendolyn and is determined to stop her. The boss battle highlights the game's action-packed combat, accentuated by a haunting choir singing in the background, before it concludes.
According to Kun Fu, the game’s producer, in a post on the PlayStation.Blog, the battle system will feature "intuitive co-op combat in a single-player experience." Players can summon two spectral knights with distinct combat roles at a time, requiring strategic planning based on the situation. "The interplay between Gwendolyn and the knights creates a dynamic, fast-paced, and deeply engaging combat experience. It's a system that our team (veterans from top game studios) fell in love with during internal playtests."
A Nod To Devil May Cry And Bayonetta
Viewers have flooded the video’s comments with praise for its art direction, art style, fast-paced and fluid hack-and-slash combat, and overall gameplay, drawing comparisons to classics like Devil May Cry (DMC) and Bayonetta. Fans have also noted similarities to other acclaimed titles such as Elden Ring, NieR: Automata, Stellar Blade, and Final Fantasy 16. Based on the trailer, netizens are buzzing with excitement, recognizing the game's "immense potential" and expressing their intent to purchase it upon release.
Tides of Annihilation is the debut title from Chengdu-based game studio Eclipse Glow Games, blending Arthurian legend with an alternate modern-day London. Players will step into the role of heroine Gwendolyn, a survivor of an apocalyptic event. While no specific release date has been set, the game is scheduled to launch on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
