Unlock Napoleon for Free in Civ 7: A Guide

by Madison Apr 17,2025

Napoleon Bonaparte, a legendary figure in the *Civilization* series, makes a triumphant return in *Civilization 7* (*Civ 7*). To unlock him as a leader, you'll need to follow some specific steps, depending on which version of Napoleon you're aiming for.

How to Get Napoleon, Emperor

Unlocking the Emperor Persona for Napoleon in *Civilization 7* is straightforward and involves creating a 2K Account. Here's how you can do it:

  • Visit portal.2k.com.
  • Log in to your existing account or sign up for a new one.
  • Link your 2K Account to the platform you're using by navigating to Connections -> Account Overview.

Once you've completed these steps, you'll unlock the Emperor Persona for Napoleon. This version of Napoleon focuses on commerce and military might, featuring a unique ability called Empereur des Francais. This ability grants a Unique Sanction called Continental System, which reduces the Trade Route limit of the targeted leader to all other leaders by 1, imposes a massive Relationship penalty, and costs more to reject. Additionally, you'll gain +8 Gold per Age for every leader you are Unfriendly or Hostile with, and you can reject Endeavors for free.

The Emperor Persona also follows an agenda called the Napoleonic Code, which improves his relationship with the player who has the smallest standing army and worsens it with the player who has the largest standing navy.

How to Get Napoleon, Revolutionary

If the Emperor Persona doesn't suit your playstyle, you can unlock Napoleon's Revolutionary Persona. To do this, you must have previously played *Civilization 6*. Follow the same process to link your 2K Account to your game, ensuring you link both *Civ 6* and *Civ 7*. Once you start *Civ 7*, the Revolutionary Persona will be available.

Note that you don't need to have played *Civ 6* on the same platform as *Civ 7* for this to work.

The Revolutionary Persona for Napoleon is a cultural and militaristic leader with an ability called La Grande Armee. This ability provides +1 Movement for all Land Units and grants Culture equal to 50% of an enemy unit's Combat Strength when defeated.

This version of Napoleon follows an agenda called Culture from Conquest, which means he dislikes leaders with many alliances but gains a relationship bonus with the player who has the highest Culture Per Turn.

By following these steps, you can unlock both versions of Napoleon in *Civilization 7* and enhance your gameplay with his unique abilities and agendas.
