In *Atomfall*, upgrading weapons not only enhances their stats and gives them a sleek new appearance but also unlocks the coveted 'Make do and mend' trophy. Here's a detailed guide on how to upgrade your arsenal in *Atomfall*.

How to Unlock the Gunsmithing Skill in Atomfall

To unlock crafting recipes for upgraded weapons in *Atomfall*, you must first acquire the Gunsmithing skill. This survival skill is learned by reading the Crafting Manual, which can be quite a challenge to find. However, there's a straightforward method to obtain it.

Morris Wick, located at the Village Shop in Wyndham, possesses a copy of the Crafting Manual. To get it from him, you'll need to engage in a bit of blackmail. Upon entering St. Katherine’s Church, you'll uncover a recent murder of Maisie, which the Vicar wants to keep under wraps. Further investigation will lead you to evidence implicating Morris as the murderer. This evidence can be found in the Brewery Cellar at coordinates 30.5 E, 80.5 N in the west of Wyndham Village. Enter through the cellar door by the ruined building and search for the note titled “Kill the One They Call Maisie”.

With the note in hand, return to Morris’ Village Shop at 33.3 E, 79.9 N. Engage in dialogue with Morris, applying pressure without outright threats until you reach the “Bargaining” option. Choose this, and Morris will hand over the Crafting Manual in exchange for your silence.

Alternatively, the Crafting Manual can be found in the D Section of The Interchange, though this method is more challenging and time-consuming.

After acquiring and reading the Crafting Manual, you'll need to spend 7 Training Stimulants to unlock the Gunsmith skill. This skill is crucial for accessing the recipes needed to craft upgraded weapons. Be sure to explore B.A.R.D. structures like Bunkers and The Interchange to gather the necessary Training Stimulants.

How to Craft Weapon Upgrades in Atomfall

Atomfall Weapon Upgrade

Once you have the Crafting Manual and the Gunsmith skill, you can start crafting weapon upgrades. When you acquire a weapon, you'll unlock the recipe to craft its next highest tier, progressing from Rusty to Stock, and finally to Pristine. To upgrade a weapon, you'll need two units of the weapon at the previous tier, along with a specific amount of Gun Oil and Scrap, which may vary depending on the weapon.

For instance, upgrading the Falkirk Battle Rifle to Pristine requires 2 Falkirk Battle Rifles (Stock), 3 Gun Oil, and 6 Scrap. These materials are often found at military installations, particularly at Protocol Camps. If you plan on frequently upgrading weapons, consider investing in the Deep Pockets survival skill to carry more crafting supplies.

Upgrading a weapon to Pristine for the first time will earn you the 'Make do and mend' Achievement or Trophy, a testament to your crafting prowess.

*Atomfall* is now available on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox Game Pass, offering players across multiple platforms the chance to dive into its post-apocalyptic world and master the art of weapon upgrading.
