Omori Cancels Switch and PS4 Physical Release in Europe

by Finn Mar 05,2025

Omori Cancels Switch and PS4 Physical Release in EuropeMeridiem Games, Omori's European publisher, has announced the cancellation of the game's physical release for Nintendo Switch and PS4 in Europe. The publisher cited technical challenges related to multilingual European localization as the reason for the cancellation.

Delays Leading to Cancellation

The physical release faced multiple postponements. Initially slated for March 2023, it was delayed to December 2023, then March 2024, and finally to January 2025 before ultimately being cancelled. Pre-orders through retailers like Amazon were affected, with customers receiving notifications of the repeated delays.

While Meridiem Games offered limited details regarding the specific localization issues, the numerous delays clearly indicate significant hurdles in bringing the game to European audiences in multiple languages.

The cancellation is a significant disappointment for European fans, particularly those anticipating the game's official release in Spanish and other local languages. Importation of US copies remains the only option for physical copies of the Switch and PS4 versions.

Omori Cancels Switch and PS4 Physical Release in EuropeOmori, an acclaimed RPG, follows Sunny, a young boy grappling with the aftermath of a traumatic event. The game seamlessly blends the real world with Sunny's dream world, where he adopts the persona of Omori. Initially released on PC in December 2020, it expanded to Switch, PS4, and Xbox in 2022. However, the Xbox version was subsequently removed due to an unrelated incident involving merchandise from the game's developer, OMOCAT.
