Amazon has unveiled Alexa+, a significant upgrade to the standard Alexa voice assistant, now enhanced with generative AI technology. This new version promises a more natural and flowing conversational experience. Amazon describes Alexa+ as "more conversational, smarter, personalized – and she helps you get things done." Currently, Alexa+ is in its Early Access phase, exclusively available on select Echo Show models: the Echo Show 8, 10, 15, and 21. If you own or plan to purchase one of these devices, you can sign up for notifications to join the Early Access program. Post the Early Access period, Alexa+ will be accessible as a complimentary benefit for Amazon Prime members, or for a subscription fee of $19.99 per month for non-Prime users.

With its conversational approach, Alexa+ allows you to ask questions or request assistance on the fly. It can help with tasks such as managing your to-do list, retrieving specific calendar details, making restaurant reservations, and more. Amazon's Alexa+ Early Access page highlights that "new features are being added regularly," suggesting that more enhancements and capabilities will be introduced following the Early Access phase.
However, not all devices will support Alexa+ immediately. Older generation Echo devices, including the Echo Dot 1st Gen, Echo 1st Gen, Echo Plus 1st Gen, Amazon Tap, Echo Show 1st Gen, Echo Show 2nd Gen, and Echo Spot 1st Gen, will continue to operate with the original Alexa. Amazon has plans to expand Alexa+ compatibility to additional devices such as Fire TV, Fire tablets, and Alexa.com in the near future.
