Capcom has officially announced the launch of the Capcom Games Competition, a pioneering event in the realm of game development. This competition is exclusively for students in Japan and leverages Capcom's advanced RE ENGINE. The primary objective is to invigorate the video game industry by fostering research development at educational institutions. Through this industrial-academic partnership, Capcom aims to not only enhance the industry but also nurture future game development talent.

Participants will form teams of up to 20 members, with each member taking on specific roles akin to those in professional game development. Over a six-month period, these teams will collaborate to create a game, receiving guidance from seasoned Capcom developers. This hands-on experience will immerse students in "cutting-edge game development processes." Moreover, Capcom is set to provide the winners with "game production support," opening doors to potential commercialization of their projects.

Capcom Games Competition Opens Up RE ENGINE for Student Focused Challenge

The application window for the competition opens on December 9, 2024, and closes on January 17, 2025, unless otherwise specified. Eligible participants must be at least 18 years old and currently enrolled in a university, graduate school, or vocational school in Japan.

RE ENGINE, also known as Reach for the Moon Engine, is Capcom's proprietary game development engine, first developed in 2014 for Resident Evil 7: Biohazard. Since its inception, it has powered numerous Capcom titles, including recent Resident Evil games, Dragon’s Dogma 2, Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess, and the upcoming Monster Hunter Wilds. The engine is continually evolving, ensuring it remains at the forefront of high-quality game development.
