Civilization 7's Unannounced Fourth Age: Datamined Evidence and Developer Teases

Civilization 7 dataminers have uncovered hints suggesting a fourth, currently unannounced, Age is in the works. This aligns with subtle hints dropped by Firaxis in an interview with IGN.

Currently, Civilization 7 features three Ages: Antiquity, Exploration, and Modern, each culminating in an Age Transition. This transition involves selecting a new civilization, retaining chosen Legacies, and witnessing a global evolution of the game world – a unique feature in the Civilization series. The Modern Age concludes before the Cold War, ending with World War II, a decision explained by lead designer Ed Beach as a deliberate choice to create distinct historical chapters. Beach highlighted the historical significance of the periods chosen as Age endpoints, emphasizing the global impact of events like the fall of major empires in the late Antiquity period and the revolutionary upheavals that marked the transition to the Modern Age. The World Wars served as a pivotal point signifying a major global shift, justifying the current game's conclusion.

The possibility of a fourth Age, potentially encompassing the Space Age, was alluded to by executive producer Dennis Shirk, who, while not confirming specifics, emphasized the potential for expansion given the Age-specific systems, visuals, units, and civilizations already established.

Further fueling speculation, datamining efforts by Reddit user ManByTheRiver11 revealed references to an "Atomic Age," along with unannounced leaders and civilizations. This discovery strongly suggests the potential fourth Age, fitting seamlessly with the current game's timeline and Shirk's comments.

While Firaxis addresses ongoing community feedback and strives to improve the game's reception following some negative reviews, the prospect of a fourth Age adds an exciting layer of anticipation for the future of Civilization 7. The developer's commitment to age-specific content suggests a rich and expansive future for the game.
