Shoji Meguro, who has been composing music for Atlus since 1995 on titles like the Shin Megami Tensei and Persona series, took a leap into indie game development in 2021 while still collaborating with Atlus. His latest endeavor, Guns Undarkness, was first showcased at Indie Live Expo Winter 2021 and successfully met its Kickstarter stretch goals in 2022. The game is slated for early access release later this year.

According to its Steam page, Guns Undarkness is a "turn-based tactical JRPG inspired by games like Metal Gear Solid and Persona." Set in the year 2045, the game places you in the shoes of a private military company operative tasked with uncovering the secrets of a world on the brink of destruction. The gameplay is split into two distinct phases: stealth and battle. During stealth segments, you'll navigate the field and remain undetected, gaining strategic advantages in combat. Battles are turn-based, where you command your characters and utilize various firearms to emerge victorious.

The demo for Guns Undarkness will offer approximately 20 minutes of gameplay, including a tutorial on basic controls, the battle system, weapons, and early game strategies. The full game is expected to launch in Spring 2025 for Early Access, providing around 10 hours of playtime on PC. While an exact release date hasn't been announced yet, the anticipation is building for what promises to be a groundbreaking addition to the JRPG genre.
