Dragon Age: The Veilguard Gets Surprise Free Weapon DLC After Months Without an Update

by Adam Mar 25,2025

BioWare may have largely shifted its focus away from Dragon Age: The Veilguard, but that hasn't stopped the dedicated team still working on the game from surprising fans with a delightful addition: a small DLC weapons pack. The excitement among Dragon Age enthusiasts was palpable when the RPG's Steam page was recently updated to feature the Rook’s Weapons Appearance Offer, a free add-on that has sparked joy and surprise, especially after EA had indicated that the game would not see much future support. The fifth patch released in January had promised to focus primarily on fixing game-breaking bugs, making this new content feel like an unexpected gift.

The Rook’s Weapons Appearance Offer is a limited-time offer, available only to current owners and those who purchase the game on PC by April 8, 2025. While there's no detailed description of what's included, players have discovered that it features a set of Watchful skins accessible in the Rook’s in-game room. There’s uncertainty about whether this offer will extend to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X | S versions of the game.

Despite the modest nature of the content, fans have been vocal about their appreciation. A Steam review humorously noted, “Even if these appearances aren't the most, uh, beautiful things ever, they do give spooky eldritch horror vibes!” Meanwhile, a Redditor expressed satisfaction, stating, "It's cosmetic DLC, but it's essentially free DLC for a game that's practically no longer getting newer content. I'll live with that."

Dragon Age: The Veilguard launched to positive reviews from critics in October, but according to EA, it failed to “resonate with a broad enough audience.” In late January, lead members of its team announced they would be leaving BioWare, with much of the staff either laid off or reassigned to other roles within the company. At that time, EA informed IGN that the studio was shifting its “full focus” on the next Mass Effect.

Dragon Age: The Veilguard was included in the PlayStation Plus March 2025 titles, just four months after its launch. No other plans for its future have been announced, making this small DLC addition all the more significant for fans eager for any new content.
