Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii promises to blend serious drama with comedic flair, according to developer RGG Studio. Dive in to discover the exciting features of the game!
Featuring "Serious" Majima
The latest addition to the renowned Like a Dragon series is set to stretch the limits of reality while delivering a "manly drama" storyline, as revealed by RGG Studio in an interview with Automaton Media.
While the series is celebrated for its humor and iconic characters like Majima, known for his comedic antics, RGG Studio director Masayoshi Yokoyama emphasized that this iteration of Majima will adopt a "more serious" tone, particularly at the story's outset.
Ryosuke Horii, the producer of Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii, elaborated on Yokoyama’s comments, stating that the game's core is a "manly drama" that highlights Majima’s intense journey towards his goals and the bonds he forms along the way. "The goofing off isn’t the main focus – it’s the manly drama at the heart of the game. Of course, there are some wild detours, but overall, it’s a straightforward narrative about a passionate man."
Horii further explained that Majima brings a unique quality to the series that the long-standing protagonist, Kazuma Kiryu, cannot replicate. As translated by Automaton, "Not leveraging Majima's distinctiveness would be a missed opportunity. That’s why we've pushed the boundaries of reality more than we would with Kiryu, aiming to provide players with action-packed and varied gameplay. ... Balancing the pirate theme, Majima's essence, and the 'Ryu ga Gotoku' spirit was a challenging but rewarding task."
The game is poised to strike the perfect balance between realism and extravagance, ensuring that the gameplay remains engaging and "wilder," while still rooted in a serious and compelling drama.
Majima Maji Festival In Japan

The festivities kicked off on December 1, 2024, in Sapporo and are nearing their conclusion, with stops left in Nagoya on January 18th and Tokyo on January 25th. If you're in either of these cities on those dates, don't miss the chance to join the celebration!
