Dune: Awakening Sells 1 Million Copies, Making It Funcom's Fastest-Selling Game Ever

by Julian Mar 09,2026

Dune: Awakening has surpassed 1 million copies sold in just two weeks.

Developer Funcom revealed the milestone earlier today, noting that alongside a strong launch and “very positive” player reviews on Steam, over a million players have “awakened,” making it Funcom’s fastest-selling game to date.

"Dune: Awakening launched June 10 and 1,000,000 players have awakened!" the studio said. "It’s now Funcom’s fastest-selling game ever. For context, it took Conan Exiles a full year to reach this milestone. We’re deeply humbled and grateful for this overwhelming response. And let’s be honest—you’ve been anything but idle since launch.

"The launch has been a Coriolis storm, and we’re still riding that powerful wind. We’ve seen incredible things from you all—the bases, the narrow escapes from Shai-Hulud, the epic vehicle leaps, the struggles, discoveries, triumphs, heroic deaths, and so much more... We salute you, Sleepers."

PlayWithin hours of release, Funcom’s survival RPG peaked at over 142,000 concurrent players on Valve’s platform, and reached a new peak of 189,333 players last weekend. We gave Dune: Awakening an 8/10 in our review, writing: "Dune: Awakening is a superb survival MMO that captures Frank Herbert’s sci-fi universe with remarkable fidelity—mostly to its benefit, and occasionally to its detriment. The journey from dehydrated peasant to powerful warlord of Arrakis is deeply satisfying at nearly every turn, and the story and worldbuilding filled this nerd with pure joy.

"There’s still work to be done, though—combat hasn’t quite found its rhythm, the endgame feels chaotic and underwhelming, and several technical bugs remain. But even these rough spots feel like tiny desert mice beside the leviathans of Shai-Hulud that define this game’s remarkable successes."

Funcom is already "currently formulating a plan" to enhance PvP in the Deep Desert, an area players have labeled “toxic” due to griefing. Funcom has already patched out the ability to crush other players with your Ornithopter, but senior game director Viljar Sommerbakk also revealed the team is exploring adjustments to Ornis, such as adding rockets that “reduce overall maneuverability and top speed.”

To help you survive on Arrakis, we’ve put together Dune: Awakening resource guides to help you locate iron, steel, aluminium, and a Dune: Awakening Trainers locations guide.
