Hearthstone has unveiled details for its highly anticipated Heroes of StarCraft Mini-Set, launching January 21st. This expansion, the largest in Hearthstone history, features 49 new cards, including class-specific cards, multi-class StarCraft faction cards, and a single neutral Legendary card.
Initially teased during the Warcraft Direct on November 13, 2024, Heroes of StarCraft marks a crossover between Hearthstone and StarCraft, Blizzard's renowned science fiction RTS franchise. Following a brief initial reveal, Blizzard has now provided comprehensive details about this exciting micro-expansion.
The 49 new cards are distributed as follows: three cards per Hearthstone class, five faction-specific cards per StarCraft race (Zerg, Protoss, Terran), each with one Legendary card, and one additional neutral Legendary card, Grunty. A selection of cards has already been revealed, with further previews planned throughout the week leading up to the release.
Hearthstone Heroes of StarCraft Mini-Set Release Date
- January 21st
The Zerg cards (playable by Death Knight, Demon Hunter, Hunter, and Warlock) focus on summoning numerous Zerglings and utilizing Hydralisks for swarm-based damage. Protoss cards (for Druid, Mage, Priest, and Rogue) emphasize temporary and permanent mana manipulation to deploy powerful cards like the Carrier. Finally, Paladin, Shaman, and Warrior players gain access to new Starship mechanics, including new Starship Pieces and strategies for deploying multiple Starships, even a special Mech-type Starship.
The larger size of Heroes of StarCraft does mean a higher price point. While obtainable through The Great Dark Beyond packs, players can purchase the full Mini-Set for $20 (2500 gold) – a $5 (500 gold) increase over previous Mini-Sets – or the all-Golden version for $80 (12,000 gold). Alternatively, individual faction packs (Protoss, Terran, or Zerg) are available for $10 (1200 gold).
To celebrate the launch, Hearthstone is hosting two streamed events: StarCast and HearthCraft. StarCast (January 23rd, 10 AM PST) features StarCraft legends TrumpSC and Day9 showcasing the new cards. HearthCraft (January 24th, 9 AM PST) pits Hearthstone community creators against each other in faction-based matches and mini-games. Viewers can earn two standard and two Golden The Great Dark Beyond packs by watching these events on Twitch.
