The wildly popular hero shooter, Marvel Rivals, has been a smashing hit on PS5, Xbox Series, and PC. However, its developer, NetEase, has been clear that the game won't be coming to the original Nintendo Switch, much to the disappointment of Nintendo fans. But there's a glimmer of hope for those eagerly awaiting news about the Nintendo Switch 2.
During the recent DICE Summit in Las Vegas, we had the chance to discuss this very topic with Marvel Rivals producer Weicong Wu. For Switch enthusiasts, the news is promising: a release on the Nintendo Switch 2 seems to be on the table.
Wu explained, "We're already in contact with Nintendo and working on some development kits. And whenever we find that we could provide great performance for our game on Switch 2, we're open to that. The reason why we didn't launch it onto the Switch was that the first generation of that device couldn't provide a great experience for our gameplay. So if it could achieve that goal, we're open to that."
The Nintendo Switch 2 was officially announced last month, and while details on its capabilities are still scarce, it's shaping up to be a more powerful version of the beloved Nintendo Switch. One intriguing feature is the potential for mouse-like controller functionality, which could make playing shooters like Marvel Rivals feel more akin to a PC experience. However, the specifics of how this will work are yet to be revealed.
Currently, the Nintendo Switch 2 does not have a confirmed release date, but a Nintendo Direct is scheduled for April 2, which may shed more light on this eagerly anticipated console. In the meantime, Marvel Rivals is available on other platforms and has received high praise from us. In our 8/10 review, we noted that it "may be following closely in the slipstream of the hero shooters that have come before it, but by doing so, Marvel Rivals has firmly placed itself in a strong position to take the crown for itself." Fans can look forward to the addition of The Human Torch and The Thing to the game on February 21.
