Supermassive Games, known for horror titles including Until Dawn, The Quarry, and The Dark Pictures anthology, has reportedly halted production on an unannounced Blade Runner project.
According to Insider Gaming, the studio was developing Blade Runner: Time To Live, described as a cinematic action-adventure focusing on the last Blade Runner operative in 2065. The narrative would have centered on So-Lange, a Nexus-6 replicant dispatched to eliminate an underground replicant leader before being betrayed and abandoned. Gameplay reportedly blended stealth, combat, exploration, detective work, and intense character-driven drama.
Project Details Revealed
Insider Gaming's report indicates the game carried a $45 million budget, with $9 million allocated for motion capture and acting talent. Planned as a 10-12 hour single-player experience, development reportedly began in September 2024 with a targeted September 2027 release across PC and both current/next-gen consoles.
The cancellation reportedly stemmed from licensing complications with rights holder Alcon Entertainment, with the project being scrapped in late 2023.
Current Blade Runner Developments
Annapurna Interactive announced Blade Runner 2033: Labyrinth in mid-2023 as their first internally developed title - the first Blade Runner game in 25 years. However, updates since the initial reveal have been scarce.
Supermassive continues developing multiple projects including Dark Pictures: Directive 8020 and Little Nightmares 3. The studio underwent restructuring last year with approximately 90 staff reductions reported by Bloomberg's Jason Schreier.
