Overwatch 2 is prepping significant buffs for Reinhardt and Winston, two iconic tanks. While specifics are still under wraps, lead gameplay designer Alec Dawson recently hinted at these much-needed improvements in a discussion with content creator Spilo.
Dawson discussed his design philosophy, acknowledging past missteps like creating overly versatile heroes. He confirmed upcoming buffs for Reinhardt and Winston, focusing on key abilities. Reinhardt’s Charge is slated for a damage boost to 300, potentially one-shotting most non-tank heroes upon pinning. Winston will receive enhancements to his Tesla Cannon alt-fire (likely a reduced charge time) and Primal Rage ultimate, though the latter’s specifics remain undisclosed.
Potential Buffs:
- Reinhardt: Charge pin damage increased to 300.
- Winston: Tesla Cannon alt-fire charge time reduction.
- Winston: Primal Rage ultimate improvements.
These adjustments aim to revitalize Reinhardt and Winston, who've struggled to maintain relevance in Overwatch 2's one-tank meta. Their performance has fluctuated since Overwatch 1, and these buffs should improve their viability.
While a release date isn't set, given the recent start of Season 11, these buffs are expected within the next few weeks, possibly arriving in a mid-season patch sometime in mid-July or earlier.
Beyond Reinhardt and Winston, Dawson also addressed Mauga, the newest tank, hinting at potential tweaks to his Cardiac Overdrive. He also teased the upcoming Space Ranger support hero, describing her as highly mobile with a unique mechanic shared by only one other character. More details on these heroes and their adjustments are anticipated soon.
