PlayStation Portal Enhances Cloud Streaming with Beta Updates, Adds Gameplay Capture

by Penelope May 25,2025

Sony is rolling out a significant update for PlayStation Portal users participating in its Cloud Streaming Beta, enhancing both user experience and functionality within the remote play system's cloud capabilities. This update, set to be available later today, introduces several new features designed to improve gameplay and user interaction.

A key addition to the update is the ability to sort games within the Cloud Streaming Beta catalog. Players can now organize their games by Name, Release Date, or based on when titles were most recently added to PlayStation Plus, making it easier to navigate and select games.

Another exciting feature is the introduction of gameplay capture during Cloud Streaming sessions. Users can access the familiar create menu to take screenshots or record video clips. According to the PlayStation blog, video clips can be recorded at a resolution of up to 1920x1080 and have a maximum duration of three minutes.

PlayGameplay will now pause under specific circumstances, such as when you open the PS Portal quick menu, enter rest mode using the power button, or if a system error message appears. However, if the Portal remains in rest mode for more than 15 seconds, the cloud streaming session will disconnect. It's important to note that pausing is not supported during online multiplayer sessions.

Additional updates include a queue system for when the streaming server reaches capacity, notifications for inactivity, and tools for user feedback. Sony has expressed its commitment to continuously enhancing the Cloud Streaming Beta based on user input.

The Cloud Streaming Beta is exclusively available to PlayStation Plus Premium members, allowing them to stream select PS5 games from the PS Plus Catalog directly on the PS Portal. Last year's update transformed the Portal into a more independent cloud streaming device, and it appears that Sony intends to keep refining this feature moving forward.

As cloud streaming becomes increasingly integral to the gaming landscape, it will be fascinating to observe how Sony's offerings develop in tandem with the PlayStation Portal. The ability to capture numerous screenshots while streaming to the Portal is a welcome addition, enhancing the overall user experience.
