Will Wright, creator of The Sims, recently shared new details about his upcoming AI life simulation game, Proxi, during a Twitch livestream with BreakthroughT1D. This exciting project, first announced in 2018, is finally moving forward, with more information revealed than ever before.
Proxi: A Game Built from Your Memories
Initially shrouded in mystery, Proxi—developed by Gallium Studio—is shaping up to be a deeply personal experience. Wright explained that Proxi is an AI life sim built directly from your memories. Players input their real-life memories in paragraph form, and the game transforms them into animated scenes. These scenes are then customizable, allowing players to refine them using in-game assets to better reflect their recollections.
Each new memory, termed a "mem," trains the game's AI and populates the player's "mind world"—a navigable 3D environment of interconnected hexagons. As the mind world expands, so does its population, with Proxies—representations of friends and family—emerging alongside the player's memories. These memories are freely arranged on a timeline and linked to Proxies, creating a dynamic and personal representation of the player's life. Remarkably, these Proxies can even be exported to other game worlds, such as Minecraft and Roblox!
The core goal of Proxi is to create "magical connections with memories and bring them to life." Wright emphasized his desire for a more personal player experience, explaining, "I found myself getting continuously closer and closer to the player. Kind of a saying I've lived by, which is that no game designer has ever gone wrong by overestimating the narcissism of their players." He added with a laugh, "It goes to figure that the more I can make a game about you, the more you'll like it."
Proxi is now featured on Gallium Studio's official website, with platform announcements expected soon.
