Semine or Hashek: Best Outcome in Kingdom Come Deliverance 2's Necessary Evil Quest

by Audrey Apr 27,2025

In Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, the main story quest "Necessary Evil" presents players with some of the game's most challenging moral choices. Here's a detailed guide on how to navigate through the quest, including key decisions regarding Semine and Hashek.

Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 Necessary Evil Quest Walkthrough

Upon completing the "Back in the Saddle" quest, you'll unlock "Necessary Evil." Von Bergow will task Hans and Henry with gathering intelligence from Nebakov Fortress and interrogating a prisoner. The interrogation's outcome will significantly influence whether von Bergow targets Semine or Nebakov Fortress. This walkthrough focuses on choosing Semine, where the most critical decisions lie.

Prisoner Interrogation Answers

During the interrogation, you'll need to pass Speech checks to extract information. You can either use threats backed by sufficient Speech skill or resort to torture. Here are the Speech requirements for each option:

  • "We’ll put in a good word for you." (20 Impression)
  • "Istvan and I are old acquaintances." (20 Impression)
  • "Otherwise, it’ll end badly for you." (17 Intimidation)

After the interrogation, you'll uncover the bandit leader's identity and Semine's involvement. When reporting back to von Bergow, you can either inform him of Young Semine's collusion with the bandits, leading to an attack on the town, or claim no one helped the bandits, directing the attack to Nebakov.

Should You Attack Semine or Nebakov?

Choosing to attack Semine involves riding with the party to confront more complex decisions related to Hashek. Opting for Nebakov results in von Bergow dealing with the bandits there, concluding the "Necessary Evil" quest immediately.

While attacking Nebakov avoids bloodshed in Semine, it also means letting Semine escape justice for his actions, which have caused many innocent deaths. Personally, I chose to attack Semine, believing it was the right course of action despite my familiarity with the town from earlier in the game.

If you choose Semine, it's crucial to ride with the party. Falling behind could lead to the town's slaughter. Accompanying them offers a chance to intervene and help Semine.

Should You Side With Semine or Hashek?

Before setting out, you can talk to Hashek, who clearly seeks revenge against Semine and favors a violent approach.

Upon reaching Semine, you must decide between siding with Semine or Hashek. Choose "Hashek is right" to align with Hashek, or "Olda deserves a trial" to support Semine.

I recommend siding with Semine. Although he wrongly aided the bandits, Hashek's desire for destruction would result in more innocent casualties. Playing Henry as a morally upright character, it made sense to oppose Hashek's extremism.

After defeating Hashek, advise the Semines to burn their estate and flee, which will advance the quest to the next objective of reporting to von Bergow.

Siding with Hashek leads to the death of everyone in town. You can also encounter Olda in the tower and decide his fate—whether to spare him or hand him over to Hashek.

Should You Tell von Bergow or Let Hans Talk?

The quest concludes with Henry and Hans reporting back to von Bergow. You have the option to stay silent and let Hans handle the conversation or speak up and reveal the events at Semine.

It's advisable to remain silent and let Hans talk. Hans excels as a diplomat, and this approach keeps both characters in von Bergow's favor, leading to plans for action at Nebakov.

This covers all you need to know about navigating the choice between Semine and Hashek in the "Necessary Evil" quest in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2. For more insights and tips on the game, including romance options and locating Goatskin, check out The Escapist.
