Lost Soul Aside's PC Release to Skip Controversial PSN Linking Requirement
Lost Soul Aside, the highly anticipated Sony-published action RPG, will reportedly launch on PC in 2025 without the controversial PlayStation Network (PSN) account linking requirement. This significant change expands the game's potential market significantly, allowing Sony to sell the title in over 100 countries previously inaccessible due to PSN's limited regional support.
Developed by UltiZeroGames, Lost Soul Aside emerged from PlayStation's China Hero Project. This Devil May Cry-inspired hack-and-slash title has been in development for nearly nine years. While Sony funds and publishes the game for both PS5 and PC, the company's previous mandate for PSN account linking on PC versions of PlayStation games sparked considerable player backlash.
The removal of this requirement for Lost Soul Aside was seemingly confirmed after its Steam page went live following a December 2024 gameplay trailer. While the initial Steam page listing mentioned PSN linking, this requirement was swiftly removed the following day, as evidenced by SteamDB update history.
A Shift in Sony's PC Strategy?
This marks only the second time Sony has reversed its PSN linking policy for a PC game, the first being Helldivers 2. This suggests a potential softening of Sony's stance on the requirement for future PlayStation PC releases. The decision likely aims to maximize Lost Soul Aside's player base and sales, particularly given the disappointing PC performance of other PlayStation titles following the implementation of PSN linking (e.g., God of War Ragnarok's significantly lower Steam player count compared to its predecessor). While the exact reasons remain unconfirmed, the move indicates a willingness from Sony to prioritize broader accessibility for its PC titles.
