Dead by Daylight Will Make Highly Requested Change to The Nightmare

Dead by Daylight's The Nightmare Receives a Major Rework

Freddy Krueger, or The Nightmare, is getting a significant overhaul in an upcoming Dead by Daylight patch. Currently considered one of the weaker Killers, this rework aims to boost his competitiveness and better reflect his iconic abilities.

The core change is the ability to seamlessly switch between Dream Snares and Dream Pallets, granting greater tactical flexibility. Dream Snares are enhanced, now moving at 12 m/s, traversing walls and stairs (but not ledges), and interacting differently with sleeping and awake Survivors. Sleeping Survivors are hindered for 4 seconds, while awake Survivors accumulate 30 seconds on their sleep meter.

Dream Pallets gain an explosive function, inflicting injury on sleeping Survivors and adding 60 seconds to the sleep timer of awake Survivors upon impact. The explosion has a 3-meter radius and a 1.5-second delay.

The Nightmare's teleportation abilities are also improved. He can now teleport to any generator (completed, blocked, or endgame) within the Dream World, and will teleport within 12 meters of any healing Survivor. This teleport reveals nearby Survivors (within 8 meters) via Killer Instinct, adding 15 seconds to their sleep meter. The teleport cooldown is reduced from 45 to 30 seconds and is no longer cancellable. Healing Survivors in the Dream World are consistently revealed by Killer Instinct (lingering for 3 seconds after stopping). Sleeping Survivors can now use any Alarm Clock to wake up, but each clock enters a 45-second cooldown afterward.

Add-ons will also be adjusted to encourage creative loadouts, though the Killer's perks remain unchanged. This might be to preserve the original design intent, even if perks like Fire Up, Remember Me, and Blood Warden currently lag behind meta choices.

Key Changes Summarized:

  • Swap Ability: Switch between Dream Snares and Dream Pallets freely.
  • Dream Snares Enhanced: 12 m/s speed, wall and stair traversal, unique interactions based on Survivor sleep state.
  • Dream Pallets Explosive: Triggers a blood geyser, inflicting injury or extending sleep timer.
  • Improved Teleportation: Teleport to any generator or healing Survivor in the Dream World, with Killer Instinct reveals.
  • Teleport Cooldown Reduced: Reduced from 45 to 30 seconds, non-cancellable.
  • Alarm Clock Cooldown: 45-second cooldown after use.
  • Healing Survivor Reveal: Consistent Killer Instinct reveal while healing.

The reworked Nightmare is expected to be significantly more competitive and truer to the character's lore, offering a more engaging and challenging experience for both Killers and Survivors. While a release date isn't specified, these changes are currently implemented in the Public Test Build (PTB).
