Metal Gear and Death Stranding visionary Hideo Kojima confirms he's actively developing PlayStation-exclusive espionage project Physint.
While details remain scarce, Kojima revealed to Indiewire that the project is currently in its "conceptual phase." When asked about his current workload, Kojima explained:
"I'm currently analyzing global player data for [Death Stranding 2] - reviewing weapon preferences, navigation routes, and gameplay patterns. I'm also identifying minor bugs and determining necessary fixes."
Multi-Project Workflow
"Simultaneously, I've begun production work on OD with my team since it's a new project. Meanwhile, I'm handling Physint development solo during this conceptual stage. Between daily interviews, promotional photoshoots, and other commitments, I don't feel Death Stranding 2's development cycle has truly concluded yet."
The "conceptual stage" description suggests Physint remains early in development, likely meaning we'll see Microsoft's OD project materialize first.
OD Development Confirmation
Regarding OD's status amidst recent Xbox project cancellations, Bloomberg's Jason Schreier confirmed through Microsoft representatives that the project remains active. This confirmation followed reports about Xbox halting development on Avalanche Studios' long-anticipated Contraband.
Kojima's Approach to Storytelling
Kojima also shared insights about player engagement with narrative content. Reflecting on Death Stranding's reception, he noted: "Cutscenes fundamentally contribute to the gaming experience." This philosophy led to shorter sequences in the sequel to maintain player engagement.
Finally, despite creating the iconic Metal Gear franchise, Kojima confirmed he won't be playing Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater when the MGS3 remake launches later this month.
