Marvel Rivals to Reduce Memory Usage and Improve Stability With Experimental Feature

NetEase is rolling out an innovative experimental feature aimed at enhancing Marvel Rivals' stability and reducing its memory footprint. Announced via a Twitter (X) post on April 30, the upcoming Switch Shader Compilation Mode is set to elevate the gameplay experience, particularly for players with lower RAM or those concerned about FPS performance.

A detailed blog post on the Marvel Rivals website outlines the expectations from this feature. The developers recognize the performance issues players face due to high memory consumption during gameplay.

The blog explains, "To tackle memory overload, we're introducing an experimental feature in Season 2: the Switch Shader Compilation Mode. This can be activated through the PC launcher with the Season 2 update." It's particularly recommended for players with 16GB of RAM or less.

Upon activation, the game will see improvements in the following areas:

  • The shader compilation process will only activate when you first enter the game after a new game version or graphics driver update.
  • Memory usage will be significantly reduced, minimizing severe FPS drops, frozen visuals, and crashes due to memory constraints.

However, the developers have noted some potential issues with this feature. At the start of each match, some materials might render abnormally for a few frames, but they should normalize shortly after. Minor stutters may also occur, but these should resolve quickly.
