Konami's Vision: Reaching a Wider Audience

Suikoden STAR LEAP Promises to be a Mobile Game with a Console-Like Experience

Suikoden STAR LEAP aims to deliver a console-like experience on mobile. In a March 4, 2025 interview with Famitsu, the development team shared their vision. Producer Shinya Fujimatsu explained Konami's choice of mobile: "We wanted as many people as possible to experience Suikoden, so we chose mobile as the most accessible platform. And if we were to bring Suikoden to mobile, we wanted to ensure it retained the series' core spirit, so we're undertaking the challenge of creating a numbered entry."

The team's goal is to seamlessly blend console-quality visuals, sound, and storytelling with the accessibility of a mobile platform.

Fujimatsu highlighted Suikoden's unique blend of war themes and strong friendships: "In Suikoden STAR LEAP, depicting the story of the new 108 Stars is crucial to the Suikoden experience."

Director Yoshiki Meng Shan further elaborated on the series' defining characteristics: "Suikoden has a unique upbeat atmosphere, showcasing friendships alongside serious moments. Another key element is the battle tempo and the collaborative nature of battles, with numerous characters working together—a hallmark of the Suikoden series."

A Unique Blend: Sequel and Prequel

STAR LEAP cleverly acts as both a sequel and prequel, traversing different eras within the Suikoden timeline. This new installment will become an official part of the series' history. The story begins two years before the events of Suikoden I, but will also explore other time periods, effectively bridging the gap between Suikoden I and V.

Fujimatsu expressed confidence in STAR LEAP's high quality, stating, "Even for newcomers to the series, we've made the game easy to play on mobile, with a story and gameplay designed for accessibility. We hope this will serve as a perfect entry point into the ‘Suikoden Genso’ world."

Meng Shan echoed this sentiment: "Suikoden is a leading RPG series in Japan. We've meticulously crafted every aspect—story, graphics, battle system, sound, and training system—to live up to that legacy. We hope you'll enjoy playing it upon release."

Suikoden STAR LEAP was announced during the Suikoden Live broadcast on March 4, 2025, alongside other upcoming projects. The game is in development for iOS and Android, with a release date yet to be announced.
