Activision has revealed that Call of Duty: Black Ops 6's Directed mode has significantly boosted player engagement with the main quest, nearly doubling the participation rate. While many players of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Zombies mode typically prioritize survival, the introduction of Directed mode has shifted some focus towards the narrative aspect of the game.
Since the inception of the Zombies mode in Call of Duty: World at War, the game has woven an intricate story that has grown with each new installment, a trend that continues with Black Ops 6. Despite a decline in the overall player base since its launch, the Zombies mode retains a dedicated community. The traditional Zombies mode features a wave-based system where up to four players face increasingly challenging enemies, often leading players to concentrate on enhancing their weaponry and defenses rather than delving into the storyline. However, the introduction of Zombies Directed mode in the Season 1 update has been a game-changer for the community.
A recent blog post from Call of Duty highlighted that Directed mode has increased the main quest completion rate from 4% to 8.23%. This statistic is derived from 480 million hours of Black Ops 6 Zombies gameplay, with a minor portion of this data collected since the November 14 release of Directed mode. Treyarch, aiming to encourage more players to engage with the main quest, views this increase as a success. Despite this improvement, over 90% of players still do not complete the main quest, prompting Treyarch to explore further ways to boost this figure.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 6's Directed Mode Made Major Improvements in One Key Area
Zombies' Directed mode was introduced as part of the Season 1 update for Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, which also brought three new maps, two new game modes, and additional content. Directed mode offers a guided experience that helps players navigate through the latest chapter of the Zombies storyline. Over the years, the Zombies narrative has explored complex themes such as interdimensional portals, zero-point energy, time travel, and teleportation, which can be overwhelming for new players. While earlier versions of Zombies left players to figure things out on their own, Directed mode provides a more structured approach to following the story.
With Directed mode in place, more Zombies enthusiasts than ever before may be able to complete the main quest. As Treyarch continues to refine and update Black Ops 6, future enhancements to both Zombies and Directed mode could further improve the main quest completion rates, enhancing the overall gaming experience for the community.
