Hideki Kamiya, the visionary behind the original Devil May Cry, has expressed his interest in crafting a remake of the iconic game. However, he's not planning to simply polish the old version; instead, Kamiya intends to build the remake from the ground up, utilizing modern technology and contemporary game design principles.
Hideki Kamiya Wants To Do Devil May Cry Remake
Devil May Cry Remake Will Not Be Made Like 24 Years Ago
The gaming industry has seen a surge in remakes of classic titles, with renowned games such as Final Fantasy VII, Silent Hill 2, and Resident Evil 4 being reimagined for modern audiences. Now, Devil May Cry (DMC) could join this esteemed list, as its director, Hideki Kamiya, has voiced his interest in remaking the original game.
In a recent video uploaded to his YouTube channel on May 8, Kamiya addressed fan inquiries about potential remakes and sequels. When questioned about his vision for a DMC remake, he enthusiastically responded, "A remake like that, well, I would like to do that."
First Released 2001
Devil May Cry made its debut in 2001 and was initially conceived as Resident Evil 4. The game's development took a dramatic turn from its original concept, leading Capcom to launch it as the standalone title Devil May Cry.
Reflecting on the game's creation nearly 25 years later, Kamiya revealed that the inspiration for Devil May Cry stemmed from personal experiences. In 2000, after a significant breakup, he channeled his emotional turmoil into the creation of the game, saying, "That memory burned inside me, which became DMC."
Kamiya admits he doesn't revisit his games post-release, including Devil May Cry. Yet, when he occasionally encounters gameplay clips, he acknowledges the game's age and its dated design. Should he embark on a remake, he plans to reconstruct it entirely, incorporating current technology and design philosophies.
While the idea of a DMC remake is not at the forefront of his mind, Kamiya remains open to the possibility. He only entertains concrete ideas when a project is on the horizon, stating confidently, "But if the time comes— I’ll come up with something. That’s what I do."
Beyond Devil May Cry, Kamiya also expressed interest in remaking Viewtiful Joe. With these insights, fans of Kamiya's work eagerly anticipate the potential revival of these cherished titles through modern remakes.
