Kevin Edwards, who worked at Genepool Software, recently shared details about "The Invincible Iron Man," a game that was intended to pay homage to the character's original comic book name. Edwards began working on this project right after the release of another superhero title from the studio, X-Men 2: Wolverine’s Revenge.

Edwards posted the game’s title card, Genepool Software’s logo, and several gameplay screenshots. He followed this up with gameplay footage captured on the original Xbox, showcasing the startup screen and a snippet from the game’s tutorial, set in a rocky desert environment.

Despite the enthusiasm from Edwards and the fanbase, "The Invincible Iron Man" was canceled by Activision just months into development. The closure of Genepool Software soon followed, leaving the team, including Edwards, jobless.

While Activision did not publicly disclose the reasons behind the cancellation, Edwards speculated on potential causes. He mentioned the delay of an Iron Man film as a possible factor, or perhaps doubts about the game's quality leading to a reluctance to fund it further. There was also a possibility that another developer was lined up for the project.

Commenters on Edwards' post noted the unique character design of Tony Stark, which was more aligned with the "Ultimate Marvel" comic book series from the early 2000s, rather than the later, well-known MCU portrayal by Robert Downey Jr. Edwards admitted he had no insight into why this particular design was chosen, stating it was a decision made by the designers.

Although Edwards promised to share more gameplay footage, at the time of this writing, no further updates have been provided. This revelation into a piece of gaming history continues to captivate fans eager to see what might have been.
