Remedy's Control spin-off shooter, FBC: Firebreak, has surpassed one million players. Though available at no extra cost to Xbox Game Pass and PS Plus subscribers, the studio hailed this as a "major achievement" while acknowledging "significant improvements are still required."
"As of last night, FBC: Firebreak has exceeded one million players. This marks a huge milestone for us, and we sincerely thank everyone at Remedy for your support," the developer announced in a social media post.
"We recognize there's still considerable work ahead, and we're highly motivated to deliver. Exciting updates are in development for Firebreak players—stay tuned for more details."
Recently, the team acknowledged shortcomings in "the first-hour experience," admitting that FBC: Firebreak's introductory gameplay suffered from onboarding confusion, unclear mechanics, and "a lack of direction regarding Jobs and efficient task execution." Additionally, the developer noted that "early weapons feel underwhelming, and progression to stronger gear demands excessive grinding."
"Despite occasional narrative gaps, the core gameplay of subduing unpredictable creatures within Remedy's brilliantly surreal bureaucratic world delivers solid entertainment," we observed in IGN's ongoing FBC: Firebreak review. "Further testing will determine how this chaotic cooperative simulator holds up under sustained play."
Remedy has outlined its long-term content roadmap, promising two free Jobs arriving in 2025 followed by additional updates in 2026. All post-launch gameplay expansions will remain free, with monetization strictly limited to optional cosmetics that don't influence progression—eliminating FOMO mechanics like time-limited items or daily login rewards.
The studio remains highly active beyond FBC: Firebreak, currently developing Control 2 and the Max Payne 1 & 2 remakes alongside its live-service commitments.
