REPO's developers have unveiled exciting plans for their first update, introducing a unique "duck bucket" designed to protect players from the game's menacing duck. This co-op horror game, which supports up to six players, challenges teams to extract and retrieve items amidst a terrifying environment. A standout feature of REPO is the Apex Predator, a seemingly harmless yellow duck that can transform into a deadly monster upon being damaged or picked up, attacking players for 10 seconds before reverting to its original form. The upcoming "duck bucket" will enable players to trap the duck, preventing it from triggering its monstrous transformation and inadvertently affecting teammates. Alongside this, the update will include new facial expressions and other quality-of-life enhancements.
Moreover, Semiwork Studios announced the addition of a new map named "The Museum," which will test players' parkour abilities. The map will feature visible borders around extraction points to help players determine if their loot is within the extraction zone. In response to player feedback, the studio is also considering implementing public lobbies with options for hosting public or private sessions and a kick button. However, they acknowledge that adding these features, particularly the kick button which involves server coding, will be challenging and may delay the update.
Since its February release, REPO has drawn comparisons to the popular co-op horror game Lethal Company due to shared mechanics and themes. On March 15, Lethal Company's creator, Zeekers, shared his insights on REPO via a Twitter (X) post. He praised the game's cooperative elements, like maneuvering a grand piano through a cramped mansion, but suggested improvements such as increasing the voice chat range and reducing the muffling effect. Zeekers also noted that the game thrives in tight spaces like the mansion layout, rather than in vast open areas. He further commented on the need for in-game tutorials to better understand enemy behaviors, expressing confidence that the REPO developers are planning such enhancements.
REPO has quickly gained popularity, becoming the second best-selling game on Steam behind Counter-Strike 2, with over 230,645 concurrent players as reported by SteamDB, nearing Lethal Company's peak of 240,817 players. For the latest updates on REPO, stay tuned to our articles.
