Capcom Enhances Monster Hunter Wilds Performance Pre-Launch
Potential GPU Requirement Reduction for PC

Capcom is actively optimizing Monster Hunter Wilds' performance before launch, as announced on the game's German Twitter/X account on January 19, 2025.
The German social media team shared gameplay footage demonstrating enhanced fluidity, featuring a hunter's battle against Quematrice - a rooster-inspired wyvern. The video highlights the updated "Prioritize Framerate" mode for PS5, which boosts frame rates while compromising some visual quality.
The post further indicated parallel optimization efforts are underway for the PC version, specifically targeting reduced GPU specifications. "We're implementing comparable performance improvements and evaluating potential reductions to recommended GPU requirements," the statement explained.

Current minimum GPU specifications list NVIDIA's GeForce GTX 1660 Super and AMD's Radeon RX 5600 XT. Successful optimization could enable playability on lower-tier hardware, significantly expanding the potential player base.
Additionally, Capcom will release a complimentary benchmarking tool to help players determine optimal settings and assess their system's capabilities. These optimizations may eliminate the need for immediate hardware upgrades for many prospective players.

Challenges in the Initial Open Beta Test

The October-November 2024 beta test revealed several performance concerns. Steam users reported primitive NPC and monster models exceeding even PS1-era quality expectations.
Beyond the crude visual presentation, players experienced frame rate instability and other technical problems - particularly frustrating for users with high-end systems. While some achieved better performance through graphics downgrades, this further compromised visual quality.

Capcom acknowledged these concerns on November 1, 2024: "Frame Generation-related artifacting in specific environments will be resolved in the final release, which already demonstrates significant improvements over the beta build."
Players will soon experience these refinements during Open Beta Test 2 (February 7-10 and 14-17, 2025), featuring encounters with Gypceros and an unannounced monster across PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam platforms. However, it remains uncertain whether recent performance enhancements will be implemented for this second beta phase.
