CD Projekt Red recently confirmed the introduction of new regions and monsters in The Witcher 4 during an interview on Gamertag Radio.
The Witcher 4's Expansion into Uncharted Territories
A Glimpse into Stromford and the Bauk
Following the Game Awards 2024, game director Sebastian Kalemba and executive producer Gosia Mitręga spoke with Gamertag Radio's Parris. They revealed that Ciri's journey will lead players to unexplored areas of the Continent. The village showcased in the reveal trailer is named Stromford, a place where a disturbing ritual involving the sacrifice of young girls takes place to appease a monstrous deity.
This deity, identified as Bauk, is a fearsome creature inspired by Serbian mythology. Kalemba described Bauk as a cunning and terrifying adversary, promising a challenging encounter. Furthermore, players can expect to face a diverse array of other new monsters throughout their adventure.
While Kalemba expressed enthusiasm for discussing these new elements, he remained tight-lipped about specific details, promising a truly novel experience within the familiar setting of the Continent.
A subsequent Skill UP interview on December 15, 2024, confirmed that The Witcher 4's map will be roughly the same size as The Witcher 3. Given Stromford's location in the far north, it's clear Ciri's quest will extend beyond the territories previously explored by Geralt.
Enhanced NPC Interactions in The Witcher 4
The Gamertag Radio interview also highlighted significant advancements in NPC design and interaction. Parris noted the reuse of NPC models in The Witcher 3, contrasting it with the apparent diversity in The Witcher 4's trailer. Kalemba responded by emphasizing their commitment to creating a living world where each NPC possesses a unique backstory and engages in realistic interactions. The close-knit nature of a village like Stromford will directly influence how its inhabitants interact with Ciri and others.
CD Projekt Red is focusing on improving NPC visuals, behavior, and facial expressions to create a more immersive experience. While details are limited, this suggests a much more dynamic and engaging world for players to explore.
