MindsEye Relaunching After 'Saboteurs' Cited for Poor Reception

Leslie Benzies, CEO of MindsEye developer Build A Rocket Boy (BARB) and former President of Rockstar North, has outlined plans for the studio's revival and the game's relaunch. As reported by IGN on July 4, Benzies addressed the current challenges faced by the team during a July 2 video conference.

Benzies stated their commitment to recovering from the difficult launch and reintroducing MindsEye to the market. The development team has pledged to work continuously to address performance problems and technical issues reported by players since release.

Earlier this week, BARB deployed Update #3 as part of ongoing efforts to stabilize the game. In a June 30 social media post, the studio confirmed the update's release for consoles, with PC implementation scheduled for a later date. The announcement noted, "We've analyzed extensive gameplay footage and community feedback across multiple platforms to identify critical issues and enhance the experience for console users."

Beyond immediate fixes, developers remain committed to delivering the originally promised roadmap featuring new missions, collaborative content, multiplayer functionality, and additional content scheduled for upcoming months. However, the feasibility of these plans remains uncertain given the current operational challenges stemming from the problematic launch.

Despite multiple post-launch updates from BARB, player engagement with the technically troubled shooter remains limited. Current SteamDB metrics indicate only 19 active players, accompanied by "Mostly Negative" Steam reviews and a Metacritic score of 38.

In Game8's evaluation, MindsEye received a 46/100 rating due to numerous technical problems, optimization issues, and overall unsatisfactory execution. Though publisher IO Interactive initially promised an ambitious product, the released version suffered from performance limitations and required additional development time to refine core gameplay elements.
