Final Fantasy VII Rebirth PC Version: Director's Insights on Mods and Potential DLC
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth director Naoki Hamaguchi recently shared insights into the PC version of the game, addressing the modding community and the possibility of future DLC.
Initially, the development team considered adding episodic DLC to the PC release. However, prioritizing completion of the trilogy's final installment ultimately led them to forgo this for now. Hamaguchi clarified that while no DLC is planned currently, they remain receptive to strong player demand. Substantial player requests could influence their decision to develop additional content.
Addressing the modding community, Hamaguchi expressed respect for their creativity while requesting that mods remain within appropriate boundaries. While official mod support isn't included, the PC release's openness is acknowledged, and the team urges against offensive or inappropriate content.
The PC version boasts graphical enhancements, including improved lighting and higher-resolution textures, exceeding the PS5 version's capabilities on powerful systems. Addressing a common criticism of the original release, lighting rendering has been adjusted to mitigate the "uncanny valley" effect on character faces.
Porting the mini-games presented a significant challenge, requiring extensive work to implement unique key configuration settings.
The PC version of FF7 Rebirth launches January 23rd, 2025, on Steam and the Epic Games Store. The game, originally released for PS5 on February 9th, 2024, is the second installment in the Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy.
